Insights From An Injury

Well… this past month did not go as planned.

I had pop-ups, events, and long beach walks on the calendar while wintering in sunny Sarasota. Instead? A slip on an icy airport ramp landed me in a soft cast with a broken big toe.

For the first few weeks, I could barely walk… let alone haul a kiosk and set up inventory.

The silver lining? A few powerful reminders:

1. I don’t heal as quickly as I used to… and that’s okay.
Twenty years ago, I broke both feet and still managed a commercial build, a divorce, and a toddler learning to walk. This time? One little toe had me exhausted after a trip to the bathroom.
Lesson learned: It’s okay to be gentle. My body needed REST.

2. New doors open when old ones close.
Since I couldn’t manage physical events, I revisited consulting work from my past. One conversation led to a referral… which led to an invitation to be a Guest Presenter on a Wellness Retreat at Sea.
Two weeks on a luxury cruise in Europe this fall? With fabulous humans? Yes, please.

3. It’s time to build systems… not just hustle.
This year has brought beautiful growth in both our skincare line and flower production. But I realized something: when I stop, everything stops.
I’ve been working like an operator, not an owner.
It’s time to delegate the maintenance and packaging so I can focus on connection, creativity, and vision.

This is just another chapter in my aging-and-growth story. Life is a wild ride… and I’m learning to flow with it.

What insight has an unexpected detour taught you lately?
I’d truly love to hear. Share on social and tag us @CharmedValleyFarm so I can learn from you, too.
